Over the years I have interviewed hundreds of candidates for various positions. Those candidates who get jobs and have successful interviews are prepared for these meetings with what is called a Me Statement. Somewhere in the beginning of the interview you will inevitably get the question,” so tell me about yourself”? Here’s where you swing into action with your me statement.
Great me statements cover the following:

Skills – (examples) – I have been trained in many formalized educational approaches to learning that will be a benefit to our students such as Wilson Reading, Writer’s Workshop and Touch Math. I am also very comfortable utilizing technology in the classroom.
Strengths – (examples) –
- I work very well in a team environment
- My lesson plans are very creative and assures all learning styles can thrive
- I am always working to learn new information to assist my school in inspiring greater student achievement
Accomplishments – (example) – My students this past year scored 20% higher in mathematics on our standardized tests due to the implementation of a team gap analysis and targeted tutoring.
Closing Statement – (example) – I am looking for a position that will allow me to continue to grow and learn as an educator. I want to work and learn from my students and peers, cause measurable improvement, try new things in my instructional practice and become a positive influence in this community.
Great me statements can get you that job. Have fun with it!
