Innovative Interviewing with Animoto

A few weeks ago my spouse who is in the marketing field announced that she would be going on an interview for a high level management position that she was interested in. Usually, she would put together a PowerPoint presentation in advance of an interview.  However, she decided that she wanted to give this interview her all by creating a promotional video demonstrating her skills and accomplishments.  As a classroom teacher, I use Animoto frequently with my students to create high quality video presentations detailing learning outcomes.  So we worked with Animoto for a few hours and she created a great video for this interview.  I am happy to report that the people she met with were very impressed and offered her the job.

Improve Your Interviewing & Resume Writing Skills with STAR Statements

Resumes that stand out include strong accomplishment statements. Impactful STAR statements include the following:

  • Situation – The situation or setting
  • Task – Tasks or strategies utilized to approach or assess the challenge
  • Action – Actions implemented to cause positive change
  • Result – The outcome including the quantifiable benefit if possible

Being prepared with a few STAR statements for your interviews is also a great idea. Showing a potential employer that you can take on a challenge systematically and make a difference makes all the difference.
